Our Approach to the Curriculum

At St Columb Major ACE Academy we believe that our curriculum should promote great attitudes to learning, a desire for knowledge and develop a child’s enquiring mind.

Learning is like overlapping waves:
A gradual ebbing and flowing of the frequencies of alternative ways of thinking, with new approaches being added and old ones being eliminated as well. New rules / strategies / theories and ways of thinking wash through our minds like waves
sometimes obliterating what was there before, sometimes pushing suddenly forward in great surges.

The curriculum is the totality of our pupils’ learning experiences and is comprised of the National Curriculum, Religious Education and the wider curriculum. We ensure that children have a wide range of learning experiences that challenge, stimulate and promote thinking and learning.

The wider curriculum is promoted through our strong school ethos and gives our pupils the skills they need to become active and responsible members of the community.  We teach our children the importance of protecting the environment through Forest School, outside learning, Eco Club and assemblies.

Our school is in the heart of the community and we have strong links with the Church and local members of community including artists and the bowling club.

Subjects in the curriculum include Maths, English, Science, ICT, History, Geography, Music,Design & Technology (DT), RE, PE, Art, Modern Foreign Language (MFL) and PSHE.
